Tuesday - Social Photo Challenge

Posted in Uncategorized on March 7, 2008 by lups

This tuesday we will take a more leisurley approach to photography, we will be going on a campus bar crawl, but rather than have a drink in every bar we’re going to take a photo which we think best sums up that college bar - thats not to say we cant have a drink in every bar though!

Over the following week if you wish to submit your photos via email (titled with the bar name and your name), they will be displayed in a slideshow during the following tuesdays (18th) meet, where you can all vote for your favourite, there is a prize for the winner.

So remember to bring your beer money, cameras, and any snoots, reflectors, diffusers etc that you have made to help improve your photos…

Looking forward to seeing you all on Tuesday!

Tuesdays sessions is going to be inspired by “Blue Peter”. The new exec have a few tricks up their sleeves that will help you create professional looking lighting for portraits and macro shots at a fraction of the price. The items we will be making are suitable to be used with COMPACTS as well as SLRs.
Please bring your cameras with you, after the making we can then show you how to get the best of your new found flash creativity!

We would be very grateful if everyone could do their best to bring some of the items listed below:

  • Cardboard
  • Tape
  • Empty cigarette packets/cereal boxes
  • Tin Foil
  • Tissue paper/Crete paper
  • grease proof paper
  • scissors
  • straws
  • pretty much anything you have in your recycling box!

There are going to be several stations making different lighting accessories and everybody will have the chance to make each different accessory.

LUPS Elections!

Posted in Uncategorized on February 24, 2008 by lups

This week, it’s election time! Now is your chance to take control of the society, and either follow our good example or clean up the mess we left behind, depending on your perspective…

We’ll be meeting at the usual time and place (Fylde SCR, Tuesday 6-7pm), giving you another quick run-through what the positions entail, and then getting down to the election process. Anyone who wants to run for a position will give a little speech declaring why they’re right for the job; don’t worry, it only needs to be a little off-the-top-of-your-head jobby, not a grand powerpoint mission statement or anything! After the candidates have made their case, they will step out of the room while the rest of the members discuss the candidates and vote (it’s also possible to vote against any of the candidates for a position, if you don’t like the looks of them!). We’ll go through this process for all of the positions, going back to redo positions no-one ran for the first time round - remember, even if you lose out on one position, you can still run for another one!

The positions currently available (details here) are:

- President
- Vice-President
- Treasurer
- Secretary
- Safety Officer
- Social Exec
- Website Editor

The positions of President, Treasurer, Secretary and Safety Officer must be filled, or the society cannot continue! However, don’t let any of the above worry you at all - the voting process is really quite informal, and you’re almost certain to get some kind of position on the exec, even if it means making up new ones (one year we had two ‘Co-Vice-Presidents’ - hmm…)! On top of that, it really is worthwhile being on the exec - it doesn’t take much time and effort, it looks fantastic on your CV, and it’s great fun deciding what the society will be getting up to for a year. And please come along and vote, even if you’re not planning on running for a position, so you can all have a say in who you trust ‘behind the wheel’!

Reflections Practical

Posted in Uncategorized on February 16, 2008 by lups

Reflections are the theme of this week’s meeting; be it water, mirrors, or anything else reflective, we’ll be having a go at shooting it. Bring along your camera equipment, and I’m sure there’ll be some interesting shots to be had!

LUPS elections are coming up soon (Week 7), so as well as the practical we’ll be discussing what our exec positions entail, and answering any questions you might have about them or the election process. Normal time and place (Tuesday 6-7pm, Fylde SCR), come along and see if there’s anything for you!
