Darkroom
The darkroom is finally ready; sorry for the huge delay! If you’re interested in using the darkroom, come speak to the exec at one of our meetings, or email us, to arrange some training sessions…
LUPS has darkroom facilities to allow members to process and develop black & white and colour film and paper.
Chemicals are provided, however, users must purchase their own film and paper (try Wilkinson Cameras in Lancaster for 20% student discount - £17 for a box of 100 8×10″ Ilford multigrade). A small number of sheets of paper will be provided free by the society for each person in introductory darkroom training sessions.
Darkroom Log
Please fill in the log with your name, the date and reason for being in the darkroom each time you enter.
Safety
We keep a First Aid Kit in the bottom cupboard and rubber gloves, safety glasses and tongs are provided to protect you from the chemicals. There is also an extractor fan to extract chemical fumes - please use it at all times.
See the Darkroom Safety Code for more safety information.
Where is the Darkroom?
The darkroom is in Fylde Laundrette (next to Pizzetta Republic), through the large doors right next to the back exit towards Fylde college. You will need to get the key off the Furness Porter in order to get in - come to our training sessions or contact us by email to find out how this is done.
Who can use Darkroom?
As the darkroom has minor risks associated with it (use of photo-chemicals, etc…), you must be trained before using the darkroom. For beginners these sessions will be scheduled at the start of the year. If you are an experienced darkroom user, for your safety, you will have to complete a brief orientation session instead.
Who is in charge of the Darkroom?
The Safety Officer has responsibility for the darkroom. Please do not hesitate to contact us by e-mail if you have any questions, encounter any darkroom problems, or would like further training.
What happens if the pre-mixed chemicals run out?
If you have been trained in mixing chemicals, mix some more, otherwise contact the Safety Officer by e-mail or on the internal phone number displayed on the inside of the darkroom door on weekdays between 11am-6pm.
What if I break something / find something not working ?
Don’t worry, the society has money for equipment, and can apply for additional grants from LUSU to replace equipment. Please contact the Safety Officer by e-mail to tell us about it.
I drank the chemicals / splashed them in my eye
The first aid kit is in the bottom cupboard. See the Darkroom Safety Code (displayed in the darkroom) for what to do next!
I think we need X for our darkroom…
Please contact the Safety Officer by e-mail or at a meeting, to discuss equipment purchases for the darkroom.
Please contact the Safety Officer by e-mail, if you have any questions about the darkroom.
