Who are LUPS?

LUPS is composed of members of Lancaster University with an interest in Photography.

Where and when do you meet?

6pm till 7/7.30pm every Tuesday during term-time - our meeting place is Fylde SCR. The SCR is on B floor of Fylde College - if you enter from the spine, go left out of the staircase and straight down the corridor to the room at the end; if you enter from the porter’s lodge, go straight ahead out of the staircase to the room at the far end.

Who do you cater for?

We welcome anyone who has an interest in Photography - either Digital or Film. No prior experience is necessary (we do tutorials) and no equipment is required (we have a number of cameras and a darkroom). We equally welcome more advanced members, in the hope that they can share the secrets of their success with the less experienced…

What type of photography do you do?

We do not limit ourselves to one particular type of photography (e.g. portraiture or landscape), but aim to cater for the interests of all members by providing a varied programme of events and themes for the meetings. If you would like to find out more about a particular area, then please let the Exec know and we’ll try and schedule a tutorial.

What recent stuff have you done?

We have had tutorials on using an SLR camera, basic photograph composition, colour darkroom printing, and many others besides. We are also constantly looking for people interested in specific areas of photography who would be willing to present short tutorials to help our less advanced members.

Do you go on excursions?

We do go on excursions from time to time, more often on and around campus itself, but also to some more distant areas: some places we’ve been are Bowland Forest, Lancaster Castle, Blackpool, and Manchester, to name a few. Most excursions will incur a small charge, as LUSU does not fund societiy transport, but this will almost never exceed £10 (if that).

What Equipment do you have?

We have a range of equipment:

• Canon 350D (17-55mm Lens)
• Canon 400D (18-55mm Lens)
• Nikon D40X (18-55mm Lens)
• Studio Equipment: 2 * Interfit 3200K Tungsten Lamps with stands and white umbrellas.
• Darkroom Equipment: Enlargers and Processors for Colour and Black and White developing and processing.

If you think there is a need for a particular item of equipment please contact the Exec, as grants are available from LUSU. There are also LUPS T-Shirts availale for purchase, please ask the exec for details!

How do I Join?

Most members join up towards the beginning of the year, shortly after the Freshers Fair - however, we do allow new people to join at any time, so don’t be afraid to come along if you’ve missed the first few meetings! You will need £6 and your Purple Card to join up, after which there will be no further costs, besides travel expenses for trips.
